I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 15 years of experience in helping people find solutions to their problems. Over the years, I have been told by clients that they really feel that I am listening to them and trying to understand what is going on in their lives and how they feel. Clients have also told me that they do not feel any sense of judgment, but rather that I accept them for who they are and where they are in their life’s journey. My style is empathetic and solution focused. I will spend time asking you questions in order to get to know you and try to find out what is at the heart of your issue. Together, we will talk about possible avenues you may want to take, or changes you may want to consider. I may give you some “homework” assignments…things to write out or think about, worksheets to complete, or even techniques/exercises to practice in your own time so that some of what we discuss in our sessions is reinforced. Most of all, I will be an objective listener, helping you to gain insight into what is going on with you, so that you are able to make the choices and changes you want to, in your own time. I look forward to working with you!

My private practice is located on my farm at 2419 Silver Creek Rd. Mill Spring, N.C. I also provide animal assisted therapy to private clients who are appropriate for this therapy. Use of diagnosis: Some health insurance companies will reimburse clients for counseling services and some will not. Most will require a diagnosis of a mental-health condition and indicate that you must have an “illness” before they will agree to reimburse you. Some conditions for which people seek counseling do not qualify for reimbursement. We will discuss the use of diagnosis and if/when submitted to your insurance company it will become a part of your permanent insurance records. I began working with BetterHelp as an online therapist in October 2021. All billing and scheduling is handled through the BetterHelp platform. Diagnosis is not used as a tool in this format and clients must agree to use 911 for emergencies as this is not a platform to be used for crisis intervention. All billing is handled through their organization. Some other telehealth organizations will require a diagnosis and will bill insurance. Private practice sessions are usually 50-60 minutes. Cost varies between individual and family conjoint sessions. I provide phone sessions for clients who live out of the area. These sessions are generally 30-45 minutes in length. Use of a diagnosis will be discussed and can be used as a road map for treatment in my private practice if on a self – pay basis. I will keep confidential anything you say as part of our counseling relationship with the following exceptions: You direct me in writing to disclose information to someone else, it is determined you are a danger to yourself or others, or I am ordered by a court to disclose information. Although clients are encouraged to discuss any concerns with me first, you may file a complaint against me with the organization below should you feel I am in violation of any of these codes of ethics. Welcome! If you're looking for support with difficult feelings or challenges in your life then you're in the right place. Life can be really hard. Big plans fall through, relationships breakup, connection in marriage dissolves, family conflict erupts, cycles of anxiety and depression amplify, questions of personal fulfillment pop up, trauma happens... Sometimes figuring out how to get through difficult experiences feels impossible on our own. When we're struggling with something, talking about it helps. That's what I do. I talk with you about whatever you need to talk about. While we talk, I listen and ask questions to understand who you are, what your experience has been like, and what's important to you. We identify and process the roots of the problem that you're going through. And I support you in strategizing how to move forward with your life in ways that are in alignment with your wellbeing. I provide feedback about tools and skills for mental health and self-growth as needed. I believe that people are capable and that everyone deserves to feel respected and heard. Our capabilities get foggy and uncertain when we're emotionally stressed. Let me help clear away the fog so you feel more confident in what to do next. Therapy with me usually takes 1-3 months for clients to feel relief and resolution from their initial issues. I am a licensed clinical social worker in North Carolina with 10 years of experience as a counselor and mediator. Hi, my name is David Mitchell. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Michigan with 10 years experience helping clients work through various challenges. I have extensive experience helping individuals with housing challenges, drug and alcohol addiction, families of an addicted person, crisis management, and helping neurodivergent individuals adjust to life challenges. I also have the ability to help clients with common concerns like: various types of anxiety, depression, life changes and life direction concerns. I have extended training in men's issues like: anger, lust, affairs, and pornography use. I have been told by my superiors in my early work settings that I make a good partner for female clients. I have a gentle encouraging style with an ability to clarify complicated issues and build a solid relationship. I have also faired well with working with older adults. My wife tells me I should have been born in a different generation. I relate to the older generations because I value hard work, live by my values, and like to sacrifice for my family and closest friends. My main passion for my work on Better Help is to help clients integrate their faith into their therapy. As a person who has worked with individuals in really difficult circumstances I know that life can be really challenging and we could all benefit from believing that God cares about our unique circumstances. I became a Christian in my college years and went to seminary twice to find my life direction. I am very happy today that I get to help people work through their mental health challenges and have the opportunity to have those spiritual discussions that sometimes come up in therapy. If you are considering trying therapy with me on Better Help I would want you to know that I care about my clients deeply. I think of my work as more than a job. I want the best for each of my clients. I strive to be knowledgeable, professional, and encouraging in all situations. I would look forward to getting to know you and seeing how we could work together.

Find a therapist near you in Vass, North Carolina

Finding a therapist near you in Vass, North Carolina starts with matching to a licensed professional who fits your needs, schedule, and goals. North Carolina is home to people with diverse mental health needs across urban, suburban, and rural communities, which can make it challenging to find care. BetterHelp connects you with a licensed therapist through tailored matching, so you can begin care from home or wherever works for you.

The network includes over 30,000 licensed therapists globally, and over 4 million people have used BetterHelp to find support through online therapy. During matching, 93% of user preferences are met, which helps you connect with a therapist suited to what you are looking for. Whether you are searching for help with anxiety, trauma, affordable or insurance covered therapy, weekend or flexible scheduling, or virtual sessions, you can find a therapist and get started when you are ready.

Why work with a licensed therapist near you?

Working with a licensed therapist near you gives you access to professional mental health support from someone trained to help you understand and manage what you are going through. A licensed therapist can offer evidence-based approaches, a steady space to talk, and guidance tailored to your situation. In North Carolina, online therapy can make that care more accessible, since sessions happen from home or wherever you are, without the need to travel to an office. This can help if your schedule is full, if travel is difficult, or if you simply prefer a more discreet setting. You can learn more about what a therapist does on the therapist role page.

Online therapy can be especially helpful for people living across North Carolina, where access to in-person mental health care may vary by location.

What concerns can therapists help with?

Therapists can help with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety and stress, depression, trauma and PTSD, self-esteem and identity, people-pleasing and fear of rejection, insomnia and racing thoughts, workplace stress and burnout, substance use, parenting and co-parenting stress, grief and loss, and relationship and family challenges. Therapists on BetterHelp may draw on approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), depending on your needs and goals. You can explore support for specific concerns on pages such as generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and eating disorders.

Please note that therapists on BetterHelp do not provide psychiatric medication management or formal diagnoses.

Online therapy vs. in-person therapy in North Carolina

Online therapy and in-person therapy both connect you with a licensed professional, and the main difference is how you meet. In North Carolina, online therapy through BetterHelp lets you have sessions by phone, video, or in-app messaging, so you can meet from home or on a schedule that fits your life. In-person therapy takes place at an office and may involve travel and set appointment windows. Online therapy may be more accessible for people with busy schedules, limited transportation, or a preference for a more discreet setting. Both formats can support meaningful progress, so the right choice often comes down to what fits your life.

Finding a therapist that accepts insurance in North Carolina
