Dr. Lakisha Ellison
Welcome! I am a Doctor of Social Work and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in North Carolina. I started my social work career in 2005, working with children and families of all ages, races, sexual orientations, genders, and abilities. I have assisted clients with depression, anxiety, attachment, grief/loss, parenting concerns, relationship challenges, trauma, abuse, Bipolar, adjustment issues, and more. I helped families address various concerns that revolved around child abuse, child neglect, domestic violence, substance abuse, self-esteem, and beyond. My current focus areas include sexual trauma, anxiety, work with transgender individuals, and the impact of adverse childhood experiences throughout the life span. I also enjoy working with queer and lesbian women of color interested in processing race, ethnicity, and sexuality concerns at the intersections of gender, oppression, and other unique experiences. My counseling style is client-centered, down-to-earth, and engaging. I integrate my humor and acts of holistic practice to include aromatherapy, healing rituals, and more. While I am not strictly a cognitive behavioral therapist (CBT), I often use CBT and find it helpful if clients are empowered to understand and use CBT outside of the traditional therapy session. Also, I use solution-focused techniques, motivational interviewing, and aspects of reality therapy, to name a few. As a social worker, I am strength-based and conceptualize clients' needs with their unique environments in mind. My goal is to help my clients be the most authentic and empowered version of themselves and live unapologetically real. The process of uncovering and discovering takes courage, strength, and hard work, something most of us have and need a little reassurance. If you are ready to begin a new therapy journey, I will be a professional support for you. You got this! The therapeutic relationship is critical and one of the most important aspects of a successful experience. I consider it a privilege to assist individuals on their journey. I look forward to working with you! In Kindness and Wellness, Kisha

Use of diagnosis: Some health insurance companies will reimburse clients for counseling services and some will not. Most will require a diagnosis of a mental-health condition and indicate that you must have an “illness” before they will agree to reimburse you. Some conditions for which people seek counseling do not qualify for reimbursement. We will discuss the use of diagnosis and if/when submitted to your insurance company it will become a part of your permanent insurance records. I began working with BetterHelp as an online therapist in October 2021. All billing and scheduling is handled through the BetterHelp platform. Diagnosis is not used as a tool in this format and clients must agree to use 911 for emergencies as this is not a platform to be used for crisis intervention. All billing is handled through their organization. Some other telehealth organizations will require a diagnosis and will bill insurance. Private practice sessions are usually 50-60 minutes. Cost varies between individual and family conjoint sessions. I provide phone sessions for clients who live out of the area. These sessions are generally 30-45 minutes in length. Use of a diagnosis will be discussed and can be used as a road map for treatment in my private practice if on a self – pay basis. I will keep confidential anything you say as part of our counseling relationship with the following exceptions: You direct me in writing to disclose information to someone else, it is determined you are a danger to yourself or others, or I am ordered by a court to disclose information. David Mitchell
Hi, my name is David Mitchell. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Michigan with 10 years experience helping clients work through various challenges. I have extensive experience helping individuals with housing challenges, drug and alcohol addiction, families of an addicted person, crisis management, and helping neurodivergent individuals adjust to life challenges. I also have the ability to help clients with common concerns like: various types of anxiety, depression, life changes and life direction concerns. I have extended training in men's issues like: anger, lust, affairs, and pornography use. I have been told by my superiors in my early work settings that I make a good partner for female clients. I have a gentle encouraging style with an ability to clarify complicated issues and build a solid relationship. I have also faired well with working with older adults. My wife tells me I should have been born in a different generation. I relate to the older generations because I value hard work, live by my values, and like to sacrifice for my family and closest friends. My main passion for my work on Better Help is to help clients integrate their faith into their therapy. As a person who has worked with individuals in really difficult circumstances I know that life can be really challenging and we could all benefit from believing that God cares about our unique circumstances. I became a Christian in my college years and went to seminary twice to find my life direction. I am very happy today that I get to help people work through their mental health challenges and have the opportunity to have those spiritual discussions that sometimes come up in therapy. If you are considering trying therapy with me on Better Help I would want you to know that I care about my clients deeply. I think of my work as more than a job. I want the best for each of my clients. I strive to be knowledgeable, professional, and encouraging in all situations. I would look forward to getting to know you and seeing how we could work together.
