Dr. Lakisha Ellison
Welcome! I am a Doctor of Social Work and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in North Carolina. I started my social work career in 2005, working with children and families of all ages, races, sexual orientations, genders, and abilities. I have assisted clients with depression, anxiety, attachment, grief/loss, parenting concerns, relationship challenges, trauma, abuse, Bipolar, adjustment issues, and more. I helped families address various concerns that revolved around child abuse, child neglect, domestic violence, substance abuse, self-esteem, and beyond. My current focus areas include sexual trauma, anxiety, work with transgender individuals, and the impact of adverse childhood experiences throughout the life span. I also enjoy working with queer and lesbian women of color interested in processing race, ethnicity, and sexuality concerns at the intersections of gender, oppression, and other unique experiences. My counseling style is client-centered, down-to-earth, and engaging. I integrate my humor and acts of holistic practice to include aromatherapy, healing rituals, and more. While I am not strictly a cognitive behavioral therapist (CBT), I often use CBT and find it helpful if clients are empowered to understand and use CBT outside of the traditional therapy session. Also, I use solution-focused techniques, motivational interviewing, and aspects of reality therapy, to name a few. As a social worker, I am strength-based and conceptualize clients' needs with their unique environments in mind. My goal is to help my clients be the most authentic and empowered version of themselves and live unapologetically real. The process of uncovering and discovering takes courage, strength, and hard work, something most of us have and need a little reassurance. If you are ready to begin a new therapy journey, I will be a professional support for you. You got this! The therapeutic relationship is critical and one of the most important aspects of a successful experience. I consider it a privilege to assist individuals on their journey. I look forward to working with you! In Kindness and Wellness, Kisha

Dr. Denauvo Robinson
I have counseling work experience in residential, community agency, university counseling centers and private practice settings. I have experience with adolescents and adults providing personal, psychoeducational and psychosocial counseling services. I also have experience working with couples and families. Additionally, I have experience working with adults who are in crisis, involved with the court system and the Division of Social Services. My orientation to counseling is based on cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, developmental and systemic theories of counseling. I also employ Rogerian, reality therapy, and Gestalt techniques. I believe that the primary process of counseling involves helping clients to find the resources within themselves in order to develop requisite skills and address themes related to their presenting problem(s) or underlying issues. My supervision training includes three years of counselor supervision in a university counseling center setting and ten years of administrative counselor supervision also in a university setting. I currently supervise aspiring counselors. I continue to receive supervision training via conferences and on-line classes. I have had a private practice for over fifteen years. Why work with a licensed therapist near you?
Working with a licensed therapist near you gives you access to professional mental health support from someone trained to help you understand and manage what you are going through. In North Carolina, online therapy can make that care more accessible, since sessions happen from home or wherever you are, without the need to travel to an office. This can help if your schedule is full, if travel is difficult, or if you simply prefer a more discreet setting. You can learn more about what a therapist does on the therapist role page.
Online therapy can be especially helpful for people living across North Carolina, where access to in-person mental health care may vary by location.
What concerns can therapists help with?
Therapists can help with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety and stress, depression, trauma and PTSD, self-esteem and identity, people-pleasing and fear of rejection, insomnia and racing thoughts, workplace stress and burnout, substance use, parenting and co-parenting stress, grief and loss, and relationship and family challenges. Therapists on BetterHelp may draw on approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), depending on your needs and goals. Online therapy vs. in-person therapy in North Carolina
Online therapy and in-person therapy both connect you with a licensed professional, and the main difference is how you meet. In North Carolina, online therapy through BetterHelp lets you have sessions by phone, video, or in-app messaging, so you can meet from home or on a schedule that fits your life. In-person therapy takes place at an office and may involve travel and set appointment windows. Online therapy may be more accessible for people with busy schedules, limited transportation, or a preference for a more discreet setting. Both formats can support meaningful progress, so the right choice often comes down to what fits your life.
