Hello, my name is Linda Blackburn. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of North Carolina. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree from East Carolina University in 1993 and my Master's of Social Work Degree from East Carolina University in 1994 through an Advanced Standing Master's Program. I began my professional life as a Registered Nurse working with Adolescents and Adults in Psychiatric Nursing for eleven years. In 1992 I made the professional decision to move to Social Work with the goal of becoming an LCSW. I received my License in Clinical Social Work in 1995. I have extensive experience in outpatient counseling as the owner of my own practice for over ten years and in working in other outpatient practice settings over the years. While my experience has been with various diagnoses and behavioral disorders, my primary focus has been in the treatment of anxiety as well as depression. I am a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP). For twelve years I also worked as a Seminar Instructor with several continuing education groups providing day-long seminars around the United States on Grief, Bereavement, and Loss Therapy - Death and Non-Death Related. Over the past ten years, I also worked as an Adjunct Professor in Social Work for Shaw University, Raleigh North Carolina, teaching entry-level Social Work courses. What has been the most important factor for me over the years is the privilege to work with clients in developing trusting relationships that lead to an open team approach to counseling and effective outcomes. My theoretical approach to counseling is primarily an eclectic one focusing primarily on a person's unique needs and the situation at the time. I believe in the importance of respect, sensitivity, compassion and always maintaining a nonjudgmental approach to counseling. The understanding and the acceptance of people for who they are and their situation, and then tailoring a treatment approach that allows for personal growth and positive outcomes is fundamental to me in my role as your therapist. Additionally, over the past 4 years I have focused on developing a deeper understanding of treatment approaches through the utilization of treatment strategies based on knowledge of the neuroscience principles in the treatment of mental health. I realize that taking this step to reach out and ask for help can be frightening and confusing. I congratulate you on taking this important first step, and I look forward to working with you to achieve your better life.

My private practice is located on my farm at 2419 Silver Creek Rd. Mill Spring, N.C. I also provide animal assisted therapy to private clients who are appropriate for this therapy. Use of diagnosis: Some health insurance companies will reimburse clients for counseling services and some will not. Most will require a diagnosis of a mental-health condition and indicate that you must have an “illness” before they will agree to reimburse you. Some conditions for which people seek counseling do not qualify for reimbursement. We will discuss the use of diagnosis and if/when submitted to your insurance company it will become a part of your permanent insurance records. I began working with BetterHelp as an online therapist in October 2021. All billing and scheduling is handled through the BetterHelp platform. Diagnosis is not used as a tool in this format and clients must agree to use 911 for emergencies as this is not a platform to be used for crisis intervention. All billing is handled through their organization. Some other telehealth organizations will require a diagnosis and will bill insurance. Private practice sessions are usually 50-60 minutes. Cost varies between individual and family conjoint sessions. I provide phone sessions for clients who live out of the area. These sessions are generally 30-45 minutes in length. Use of a diagnosis will be discussed and can be used as a road map for treatment in my private practice if on a self – pay basis. I will keep confidential anything you say as part of our counseling relationship with the following exceptions: You direct me in writing to disclose information to someone else, it is determined you are a danger to yourself or others, or I am ordered by a court to disclose information. Although clients are encouraged to discuss any concerns with me first, you may file a complaint against me with the organization below should you feel I am in violation of any of these codes of ethics. I am licensed in North Carolina with 30 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, family conflicts, & parenting issues. My approach to therapy is simple. Visualize getting into your car or whatever it is you drive. To get where you are going you look out the windshield. You use the rear view mirror as needed but you don't drive looking backwards. You drive by having vision and a plan to get where you're going. The therapy process is very similar. Teaching ourselves to live life looking forward and having a plan is how we move forward in life. We learn from the past. We see patterns and trends and use this information to make adjustments, but we live by having a vision for ourselves, finding purpose and in the moment of choice, exercise integrity to our core fundamental beliefs/values. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.

Twenty years in this field has taught me one thing: the "letters" after my name matter far less than the connection we build in the room. Whether you are a teen trying to find your voice or an adult searching for clarity, you deserve a space where you feel understood, not just "diagnosed." My approach is laid-back and collaborative, but rooted in a practice-driven mindset. Drawing from my background in athletics and coaching, I view our sessions as "structured practice." We don’t just talk about the hurdles; we run the drills to strengthen your emotional resilience so you have the skills and confidence to handle them effectively. I specialize in helping individuals navigate anxiety, trauma, and substance use. My style is transparent and relational, shaped by two decades of experience in intensive in-home, homeless shelters, recovery programs, and schools. I am your therapist who brings real-world perspective, gentle insight-building challenges, and genuine care to every session.

Find a therapist near you in Dobbins Heights, North Carolina

Finding a therapist near you in Dobbins Heights, North Carolina starts with matching to a licensed professional who fits your needs, schedule, and goals. North Carolina is home to people with diverse mental health needs across urban, suburban, and rural communities, which can make it challenging to find care. BetterHelp connects you with a licensed therapist through tailored matching, so you can begin care from home or wherever works for you.

The network includes over 30,000 licensed therapists globally, and over 4 million people have used BetterHelp to find support through online therapy. During matching, 93% of user preferences are met, which helps you connect with a therapist suited to what you are looking for. Whether you are searching for help with anxiety, trauma, affordable or insurance covered therapy, weekend or flexible scheduling, or virtual sessions, you can find a therapist and get started when you are ready.

Why work with a licensed therapist near you?

Working with a licensed therapist near you gives you access to professional mental health support from someone trained to help you understand and manage what you are going through. A licensed therapist can offer evidence-based approaches, a steady space to talk, and guidance tailored to your situation. In North Carolina, online therapy can make that care more accessible, since sessions happen from home or wherever you are, without the need to travel to an office. This can help if your schedule is full, if travel is difficult, or if you simply prefer a more discreet setting. You can learn more about what a therapist does on the therapist role page.

Online therapy can be especially helpful for people living across North Carolina, where access to in-person mental health care may vary by location.

What concerns can therapists help with?

Therapists can help with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety and stress, depression, trauma and PTSD, self-esteem and identity, people-pleasing and fear of rejection, insomnia and racing thoughts, workplace stress and burnout, substance use, parenting and co-parenting stress, grief and loss, and relationship and family challenges. Therapists on BetterHelp may draw on approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), depending on your needs and goals. You can explore support for specific concerns on pages such as generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and eating disorders.

Please note that therapists on BetterHelp do not provide psychiatric medication management or formal diagnoses.

Online therapy vs. in-person therapy in North Carolina

Online therapy and in-person therapy both connect you with a licensed professional, and the main difference is how you meet. In North Carolina, online therapy through BetterHelp lets you have sessions by phone, video, or in-app messaging, so you can meet from home or on a schedule that fits your life. In-person therapy takes place at an office and may involve travel and set appointment windows. Online therapy may be more accessible for people with busy schedules, limited transportation, or a preference for a more discreet setting. Both formats can support meaningful progress, so the right choice often comes down to what fits your life.

Finding a therapist that accepts insurance in North Carolina
