I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Therapist licensed in North Carolina with 30 years of experience working with adults, couples and families in a variety of settings. I have worked with people with a wide range of concerns including various types of trauma such as emotional, physical and sexual abuse, anger issues, depression, grief and loss, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems and PTSD. My counseling style is caring and challenging. I believe that caring about your fellow human beings is the only way to built relationships with the people you work with in counseling, and without being challenged I believe that we cannot make changes. My approach combines the brief solution focused, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral and narrative models but I will tailor our work together to meet your specific needs. It takes courage to reach out and to take the first step towards a change. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to walk with you.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 15 years of experience in helping people find solutions to their problems. Over the years, I have been told by clients that they really feel that I am listening to them and trying to understand what is going on in their lives and how they feel. Clients have also told me that they do not feel any sense of judgment, but rather that I accept them for who they are and where they are in their life’s journey. My style is empathetic and solution focused. I will spend time asking you questions in order to get to know you and try to find out what is at the heart of your issue. Together, we will talk about possible avenues you may want to take, or changes you may want to consider. I may give you some “homework” assignments…things to write out or think about, worksheets to complete, or even techniques/exercises to practice in your own time so that some of what we discuss in our sessions is reinforced. Most of all, I will be an objective listener, helping you to gain insight into what is going on with you, so that you are able to make the choices and changes you want to, in your own time. I look forward to working with you!

Hello! You can call me Cai. I’m a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, certified personal trainer, AMGA Climbing Wall Instructor, and somatic coach. I love dogs, I'm a world traveler, rock climber, somatic abolitionist, BIPoC, queer, and neuro-divergent, therapist. For new clients, please know that while I put some regularly occurring appointment times on my calendar, that my schedule varies, and is set-up to support you for about 4-session. If after 4-sessions your goals, our schedules, and fit align, I am happy to discuss ongoing sessions. In my experience, 4-sessions with me works best if you are seeking to dive into experiential and somatic work, are seeking more support while working through a specific situation or recent life change, or have a specific, personal-growth goal. I tend to work from a somatic lens, will teach coping skills when asked or it is appropriate to offer, cuss sometimes, throw in some humor, work intuitively, and through experiential process. I welcome other therapists, climbers, marginalized folx, and anyone drawn to something they’ve read here.

Use of diagnosis: Some health insurance companies will reimburse clients for counseling services and some will not. Most will require a diagnosis of a mental-health condition and indicate that you must have an “illness” before they will agree to reimburse you. Some conditions for which people seek counseling do not qualify for reimbursement. We will discuss the use of diagnosis and if/when submitted to your insurance company it will become a part of your permanent insurance records. I began working with BetterHelp as an online therapist in October 2021. All billing and scheduling is handled through the BetterHelp platform. Diagnosis is not used as a tool in this format and clients must agree to use 911 for emergencies as this is not a platform to be used for crisis intervention. All billing is handled through their organization. Some other telehealth organizations will require a diagnosis and will bill insurance. Private practice sessions are usually 50-60 minutes. Cost varies between individual and family conjoint sessions. I provide phone sessions for clients who live out of the area. These sessions are generally 30-45 minutes in length. Use of a diagnosis will be discussed and can be used as a road map for treatment in my private practice if on a self – pay basis. I will keep confidential anything you say as part of our counseling relationship with the following exceptions: You direct me in writing to disclose information to someone else, it is determined you are a danger to yourself or others, or I am ordered by a court to disclose information. Welcome! If you're looking for support with difficult feelings or challenges in your life then you're in the right place. Life can be really hard. Big plans fall through, relationships breakup, connection in marriage dissolves, family conflict erupts, cycles of anxiety and depression amplify, questions of personal fulfillment pop up, trauma happens... Sometimes figuring out how to get through difficult experiences feels impossible on our own. When we're struggling with something, talking about it helps. That's what I do. I talk with you about whatever you need to talk about. While we talk, I listen and ask questions to understand who you are, what your experience has been like, and what's important to you. We identify and process the roots of the problem that you're going through. And I support you in strategizing how to move forward with your life in ways that are in alignment with your wellbeing. I provide feedback about tools and skills for mental health and self-growth as needed. I believe that people are capable and that everyone deserves to feel respected and heard. Our capabilities get foggy and uncertain when we're emotionally stressed. Let me help clear away the fog so you feel more confident in what to do next. Therapy with me usually takes 1-3 months for clients to feel relief and resolution from their initial issues. I am a licensed clinical social worker in North Carolina with 10 years of experience as a counselor and mediator. I have education, training, and experience in a variety of therapeutic approaches including solution focused, narrative, cognitive behavioral, mindfulness, and trauma informed therapies. I tailor my approach according to each client's unique goals and needs. My job as your therapist is to empower your strengths and support your wellbeing through whatever challenge life presents. If you're ready, let’s get started!
